Smart alternators won't generate sufficient charge voltage under normal conditions. Battery capacity is reserved and charge is dumped to the battery during braking under alternator control. This is don't for fuel efficiency. To sufficiently charge a house battery a DC to DC converter needs to be used. Something like offered by Redarc or Sterling.

I just can’t take a chance with the toy battery and suspect main battery. There is no cell service 115 degree temps and a long walk home in the areas we off-road. What a pain to get to the small battery, hope u have a couple of hours to replace it. The way I see it, Jeep owes me 1100.00.
We reset the computer on the Jeep by dis-connecting both batteries and waiting 20 minutes. The jeep would then go into gear, but the check engine light stayed on. Thread starter. #1. Well the known secondary battery issues wreaked havoc on my Jeep during a Rally competition. It malfunctioned and siphoned all the power from my large battery, causing my Jeep to literally die without warning numerous times throughout the rally. I am so disappointed, as it impeded my ability to effectively compete.
For clarity: the aux switch wires will be between the battery and the side of the Jeep's Engine bay. They will be wound and taped into place. Use these for external items (winch, lights, etc) you will also find the same wires in The passenger footwell (Tucked under dash) If there are interior things you wish to hook-up (compressor, communications, etc).

I would let it sit and check it daily with a voltmeter. The voltage should not be dropping. The charging issue should be the opposite.
